The main
styles of Tai Chi Chuan are Chen, Yang,
Wu and Sun styles. There are many other
minor/family styles and variations found
throughout the world. |

The first generation
of Wu’s Tai Chi Chuan started with Chuan
You (1832-1902). Chuan You was a
student of Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan from Yang
Lu Chan. He became a bodyguard for the Imperial
Court and earned a great reputation as a boxer
and produced many fine students. Wu Chian
Chuan (1870-1942) learned from his
father and is the founder of the Wu style,
as we know it today. In his early years, Wu
Chian Chuan taught the Yang Small Frame that
his father taught him. He continually refined
his form and modified the tempo to create
the form we now see. Wu Chian Chuan moved
from Peking to Shanghai in 1928. |
