Tai Chi Chuan
Tai Chi Chuan or "Grand Ultimate Fist" is considered the treasure of Chinese Kung Fu. It is the most sophisticated of all martial arts even though it looks very simple. It is a very high form of self-defense where physical strength is of no importance. It utilizes the principles of "yin and yang" or "yield and attack" as its mainstay. It is performed slowly at first, to develop the foundations of rooting, concentration, relaxation, balance, coordination and chi. When this is perfected it is done faster to develop fluidity of the waist and body and flow in chi.
The Benefits of Tai Chi Chuan:
- Better Balance - Tai Chi Chuan has proven to be highly effective in reducing falls among healthy seniors.
- Improved Coordination - By performing many complex movements with hands and feet in a very slow manner, the practitioner develops better awareness of their body and coordination.
- Increased Joint Strength - Tai Chi Chuan is non-impact and will strengthen weakened bones and joints.
- Improved Posture - The mainstay of Tai Chi Chuan is that it is built upon a strong postural foundation.
- Stronger trunk muscles - In order to hold good posture, the abdominal and lower back muscles develop.
- Lower blood pressure - Performing regular exercise will aid in lowering a student's tension levels.
- Self-defense - Though this takes some time to develop, but Tai Chi Chuan is one of the highest forms of self-defense.
- Better Concentration - The key to practicing Tai Chi Chuan is exactness. In trying to attain this point, a student must be very diligent.
- Calm mind -This is one of the primary goals of Tai Chi Chuan.
Regular practice of Tai Chi Chuan is relaxing and challenging. The student will grow mentally and physically by connecting their mind and body. This form of moving meditation is one of the oldest forms of exercise known. Hundreds of years have proven it's effectiveness.
